Published: "American Art Collector" and "International Artist"

This month my artwork is published in two major art magazines:

International Artist Magazine has published my step-by-step demo of my Self Portrait drawing. Next month they are publishing the steps of the oil painting.

American Art Collector Magazine has published a preview article for the Still Life Invitational at Susan Powell Fine Art, where I was quoted and my painting “Message in a Bottle” was featured. Also, Susan took out a full page ad in the same issue, and featured my painting “Bottle Collection” in the ad.

Hi Sadie and a big well deserved congratulations! Your work is beautiful and you are an inspiration.
It's funny when i saw the Still Life Invitational with your painting it almost didn't register because it supposed to be there. I expect to see your work in American Art Collector. Brava!

Hi Sadie and well deserved congratulations. I'll be looking out for my International Artist Magazine when it arrives....

Is it possible for you to explain, a little more, the comments on Stages 1&2 of your Portrait where you do 'little' measuring and everything 'comes together' by line angles/triangulation(?).

You must measure, surely, how far along you need to go on some lines - especially in the early stages.

Thank you Loriann and Linda for your kind comments!

Geoff good question - I might work on another whole blog post to answer it! Short answer is: If can you tell the difference between a short/wide triangle, and a tall/narrow triangle, you can judge proportion without measuring.

I only take 1 or 2 very basic measurements at the beginning of a drawing, and check those a few times to make sure they do not "drift" during the process of drawing. But over-reliance on measuring is a crutch, and really not necessary for accuracy.

The development of sensitivity to tilts is the most necessary skill for capturing proportion and likeness.

Congratulations Sadie- great to see you in print- well deserved. I think your portrait is so delicate and sensitive. It has a luminosity that is rare.
