Figure Drawing Course
6 Saturdays, 12-4pm
Study figure drawing with classically trained instructor Sadie Valeri in a small group class. This traditional academic method will strengthen your drawing ability whether you are an absolute beginner or an experienced artist.
Working from one long pose for 6 weeks, students learn to capture accurate proportions and believable light to create a realistic figure drawing in graphite pencil in the classical academic tradition.
This class covers:
Proportion
Straight Line Block-In is a simple and intuitive 19th century method for finding accurate proportions without over-reliance on measuring
Value
Using dark and light to describe 3-dimensional form
Form
Understanding the complex nature of organic form is essential to creating a believable figure
Materials
Refined methods for creating beautiful realism with graphite pencils
Advanced Techniques
For advanced students with previous classical training, and for those students who wish to take the class more than once, Sadie shares highly refined methods for analyzing form, including finding the Inner Movement Curve, and a deeper analysis of the structure of organic form. One-Day Intensive: Blocking-In the Figure
Sunday, 10am-4pm
January 15, 2012
The Straight-Line Block-In is the fundamental tool of the classical approach to figure drawing. The block-in establishes gesture and proportion, and without it, the time spent refining the contour and modelling form is wasted.
In this intensive one-day course, we will focus on capturing highly accurate proportion and sensitive gesture in a series of 20-minute poses. The technique will be taught through demonstration, as well as with individual help at the easel.
Students can expect to greatly enhance their ability to capture gesture and proportion more efficiently with this intensive day of instruction and practice.
